Ethical Consumerism

Ethical Consumerism refers to people using their power as consumers to purchase goods and services that are produced in an ethical manner.  There are a number of ways that consumers can use this power.

Cosmetics:  Buy only products that are not tested on animals.

Cleaning Products: Buy only products that are safe for the environment.

Wood and Paper: Buy only wood and paper that are certified to come from sustainably harvested forests.

Fashion: Buy only clothes that certify that they do not use child or forced labour.

Food: Buy only tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, etc. that are certified Fair Trade.

We can also use our power by choosing not to consume.

We can bike instead of using petrol.

We can put on a jumper instead of the heat.

We can grow our own vegetables instead of going to the shop.

We can use our own refillable water bottle instead of buying lots of plastic ones.
